News Round Up – 15/05/2015

Spring has well and truly sprung. Here is a newsletter listing miscellaneous facts and opportunities in the next few weeks….

Club Championship

At the AGM we decided to trial a Club Championship based on points to be awarded each month to young riders taking part in RVJ activities. Attached (below) is the proforma for the Points Claim Form which hopefully is self explanatory. Start Month is April 2015 so some retrospective point scoring. Points to be verified by an adult member and handed to a Committee Member monthly. There may be a prize or prizes.

Additionally Coaches and club committee members may award upto an extra 10 points for other activities / conduct.

All points must be claimed by 31st January 2016

GENERAL

  • @RVJuniorsSocial media, we have various social media accounts where you can stay informed about club activities. The primary source of information is and will remain via email and this website, but notification of new posts will be put out on Twitter to @RVJuniors and our Facebook Page . If you use them then please like / Follow to be kept upto date.
  • Instagram - @ribblevalleyjuniorsInstagram, we are also on Instagram where occasional pictures from rides and events will appear.
  • Facebook. For those not aware we also have a closed discussion group on Facebook Ribble Valley Juniors open to all older juniors, parents and members. Where many ad hoc posts of club activities are posted and comments/pictures are welcome. Inclusion controlled by application/acceptance. Tell us who you are or whom you are the parent of.
  • Website. Please periodically check the RVJ website for information: www.rvjuniors.co.uk.
  • Saturday rides will continue every week leaving Walton le Dale Primary school at 10am (sign on at 9.45am) except on dates noted below.
  • Tuesday Evenings at UCLAN have started. Running until September, it is not too late to join in traffic free graded coaching and an introduction to racing by British Cycling qualified coaches. 6pm start time for Novices and Intermediate groups. Time trial times are published later with humorous comments by Suzanne each week on the Ribble Valley Juniors website.

EVENTS

  • 23rd May Saturday Ride is a joint ride with families from South Ribble BC school cycling scheme invited.
  • 24th May Sunday. NW YOUTH TOUR at UCLAN. We have said RVJ will support future racing at UCLAN by providing volunteer marshals. Ideally 4 or 5 parents, volunteers or coaches required please! Marshall briefing is at 8.30am and racing continues to 5pm so part day volunteers will be welcome. Contact Geoff or Matthew please.
  • 30th May. Lune Valley Ride. No Saturday ride from school. Meet Bull Beck Car Park: Directions: J34 M6. Take A483 Eastwards. Car park is some 500M beyond Caton. 10.30am ride departs. Suitable for all. Traffic Free route. Café stop definitely. Back later than usual -about 2.30pm.
  • 6th June. Preston City Games. Saturday ride as usual.
  • Sunday:  7th June. Venue tba. RVRCC +RVJ Joint road Ride: Meet at Preston’s College PR2 8UR at 9am for a     Mile (with café stop) intermediate level ride on minor country roads. All welcome.U18s need parental consent. U16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

(Gisburn ride 20.6.2015 Postponed to 1.8.2015)

  • 20th June. Leyland Festival. We will attend with Go Ride skills course and RVJ Gazebo. Normal Saturday ride.
  • 27th June. South Ribble BC Family Ride attached to normal Saturday ride.
  • 27th June. NWYouth League Steven Burke Circuit Pendle.
  • Sunday (early July tba)  :RVRCC +RVJ Joint road Ride: Meet at Preston’s College PR2 8UR at 9am for a    Mile (with café stop) intermediate level ride on minor country roads. All welcome.U18s need parental consent. U16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • 4th July. Dean Barwick MTB Charity ride. South Lake district. No Saturday Ride. General details available from Dean Barwick website..

 Club Kit

Club Kit is ordered periodically. To guage demand please advise by reply to this email if you are interested in new RVJ jerseys or bibshorts. Warning:Delivery may be protracted at this time of year..
